local towing companies from across the state to make the pick ups for
them. As long as a car has an engine, keys, tires that hold air and a
title that is free of liens, it is usually eligible for donation. This
is true even if the car is non running. Our charity even allows
individuals to donate car like vehicles such as golf carts.
Before donating a vehicle to our charity, it is important to make sure
that license plates and all personal possessions are removed. Whether
one lives in Grand Forks or Minot, those who donate vehicle property
will often find it is not even necessary for them to be present when the
vehicle is picked up. Our organization simply requires that the keys and
the title to the vehicle be left somewhere in the car. In return, a
receipt for tax purposes can be tucked in a mailbox or mailed out by our
charity within thirty days. In these cases, it is important to leave the
vehicle where it can be easily accessed by a tow truck.
Many charities take other types of vehicles as well. Because all terrain
vehicles and snowmobiles do not require titles in North Dakota, these
items can be some of the easiest to donate. It is also sometimes
possible to donate boat and boat related watercraft as well. However, as
our charity does not have a surplus readily available, we may require
that a trailer hitch be donated along with jet skis, small boats and all
similar items.
